Jiyaguda Mutton Market

Not for the weak of stomach

Jiyaguda Mutton Market is actually a goat market. It is in the old town, west of the Charminar, by the banks of the Musi river.

On the north-east side of the main road is the goat market itself where live animals are sold.
On the other side of the road is the slaughterhouse that dispatches the goats in advance of their transformation into Haleem, Soup and Byriani.

It's best to get there early as most of the activity happens before 10am. After that, there are still lots of goats, and traders doing their bookkeeping, and the occasional buyer.
